Our blanket ladder heads to the east coast: Hazel’s journey to Maine
Dec 18, 2025
When I decided to launch Wylie’s, I did it to share my beliefs with others through my craftsmanship. For that reason, I have found that each heirloom I create becomes personal to me. Simply put, I begin its story, but it lives on, with others, creating memories without me. This is one of the reasons why I deeply care about, literally, bringing Wylie into your home. I cherish meeting the people who are welcoming in my work and I am always thrilled to see where each piece will live.
Wylie’s is based in Southern California, so naturally many of our pieces reside in and around Los Angeles. I’ve had the privilege of creating pieces for homes in Arizona and Florida, yet in those scenarios I was creating multiple pieces, so driving them out and installing them myself made a lot of sense. As far as individual orders though, they all reside in Los Angeles. Recently, however, I received an email that created quite an exciting opportunity for Wylie's to embark on a new voyage. I woke up on Thanksgiving morning to a message from a person in Maine. They were inquiring about The Hazel Blanket Ladder, which created quite a bit of research on my end to find shipping fees that wouldn’t jeopardize the sale. To cut this part of the story short, I ultimately found a decent price, got creative with the packaging, and dropped off a six foot tall, two foot wide, and four inch thick box at UPS.
After confirming the shipping with the customer, I learned that they were in the process of renovating a stunning, historic property on an island off the coast of Maine and wanted The Hazel blanket ladder in the home. They sent me a link to the home and it is exquisite. As I write this, I'm still taken with the extraordinary journey this blanket ladder will venture on. It will literally travel to the opposite side of the country from where my shop resides. Hazel will cross thousands of miles (both land and air) before arriving in a picturesque town in Maine. Yet before it gets to its home, it will set sail through the Atlantic, destined for an enchanting New England island.
The opportunity is not lost on me, to create a piece that someone so far from my shop deems worthy of that adventure. To know Hazel will live its life as an heirloom in an oceanfront, turn-of-the-century home is a humbling experience and profoundly rewarding to the soul of Wylie’s.
