The Wesley Sling Chair
Jan 10, 2026
The cornerstone of Wylie’s is The Wesley Sling Chair. It was the first piece I created, so it felt right that I named it after my first born. To the naked eye it is purposefully minimal, while its brilliance resides within its story.
Comfort. Simplicity. Honesty. These three words represent the tenets for this piece.
COMFORT
I’ve always loved the feeling of resting in a hammock. To me, the surrendering of my body into something larger than me invites a mental shift. Peacefulness is ushered in and I begin to feel present. It is freeing and not something I experience with traditional seating. The suspension of the body, literally being held, presents a slowing time. It allows me to breathe. For these reasons, The Wesley is my invitation to you to lose yourself in thought and embrace those, or that, which is around you.
SIMPLICITY
I don’t respond well to ‘airs’ and I believe that what is natural equates to luxury and beauty. This piece requires two organic elements that will allow it to outlive most any other piece of furniture in your home. It will certainly stand the test of endless fads and trends. Wood for its bones and the leather for its sling. You will never find a screw, nail, or bolt of any kind- only what is essential.
HONESTY
Much like who this piece is named after, what you see is what you get. And what you get is honest craftsmanship. Each intersection of timber is created using handmade, ancient joinery, how the leather rolls over the frame to meet itself, so as to cradle your body, is done so using hand stitched bridle stitching, and the softened edges of the chair are revealed through hand tools like my trusted Lie Neilsen spokeshave.
Hours of attention are poured into The Wesley. Studying the movement of the grain allows us to uncover the soul in each heirloom. The value of this piece is in the journey to create it.
